What customers say?

“ There's no missing or mistaking the delicious aroma of Breaking Buns as you pull up to the parking lot. Even if there were more than the pair of food carts that are already present, you would be able to identify this cart by scent alone immediately, and be explicably drawn to it, like being caught in a tractor beam! Between the two of us, we ordered three Pork Belly Bao, and two each of the Szechuan Cow Bao and the Braised Beef Tonkatsu Bao, to get a good feel for multiple dishes, not realizing how incredibly filling they are, meaning our lunch order also became our dinner! But no complaints were heard from us either time, as we enjoyed every single bite! No wonder there aren't many other carts at this little pod; they've probably all been put out of business, or had to move elsewhere, thanks to Breaking Buns' aromatic ascendancy, and surprisingly affordable pricing. You'd be hard-pressed to find a cheaper, more filling, and more delicious meal anywhere in P-town! It may be a little out of the way for us, but I guarantee my wife and I will be returning here in the future. Very recommended! ”

“ As a huge super fan of Breaking Bad, I was super excited to try Breaking Buns. It was a typical cold / wet PDX night, and bao buns sounded perfect!! It seems that they are quite popular because they were busy and taking a lot of online orders. I tried the Spicy and Sweet Chicken Bao Buns and the accompanying coleslaw. Each bite was packed with flavor, and I really enjoyed the taste. The food truck itself lives up to the Breaking Bad theme and even had a picture of Heisenberg! Would be nice to have heaters or maybe some more lighting in the seating area. I would check it out again and try some different flavors. ”

“ 10/10 this place is awesome. I went late when there wasn’t anybody in line and got the Chicken yakisoba and the smell of this being cooked could lift you off your feet like a looney toons character this smelled absolutely divine.it’s tangy and fresh and it was filling which i appreciate for $15.50 altogether which I think is extremely fair for the amount of food I got. Very satisfying meal. Eat here! ”

“ Review for the new cart outside Alchemy Cider. While visiting PDX for work I was staying at the Jupiter NEXT and saw this cider tasting room with a cart outside and decided to see what was up. Man am I glad I did. This little cart is outside of the Alchemy Cider tasting room. The chef is super nice and friendly and talking to him we learned this is actually their second location and both are doing quite well. The play on words was just kitchy enough that I remembered the name easily but nothing too over the top. My wife and I went twice. The first time she tried the orange chicken bao and I had the shrimp bao. For $9.50 you get 2 baos and a side of savory slaw that is wonderful and a great palate cleanser. I'm dairy free so I couldn't have the aioli that usually comes with the shrimp but the substituted Korean Fire sauce more than made up for it. Lots of flavor and heat, no face melting. The second time I had the shrimp bao again but my wife had the pork belly one and loved it even more than the first one! You can add additional baos for more money but the 2 and slaw was a perfect deal to accompany our cider. 10/10, we'll definitely be back here! ”

“ I have to admit I am a bit of a food snob. When I taste a cuisine new to me I am looking for a great experience, anything less and I don't go back. Well, I have been back 6 times or so now! Their flavors are very balanced and full bodied. I do not need any other seasonings at all. The people are friendly and attentive. Regarding portion size, you can take your biggest eater and they will be quite satiated! ”

“ You don't know good food until you have eaten here ! Phil and his team do an absolutely amazing job creating and preparing the freshest food I have ever eaten. The level of meticulous care is unmatched by any place I have ever eaten. You simply have to try every item on the menu, seriously a food journey of ecstacy unmatched. All ingredients are sourced locally and prepared by hand everyday and it shows in the flavor. The prices are not too high, actually I think he should charge more it's so good. Restaurant quality and service unmatched at any other food cart. Please support this locally owned and operated business. A+++ Outstanding flavor, excellent prices ”

“ I have a very good feeling about the future for Breaking Buns - being within walking distance of a college campus, and serving terrific food until relatively late at night seems like a perfect combination. We had both buns and noodles, and I happily look forward to returning for both. Since the filling for each bun is cooked to order over high heat, you can't order a sampler of just one of each flavor, but I'd imagine a small group of customers could order separately, and then divide up their accumulated tastiness. ”

- John Kutasz -

“ The buns were delicious! I think the noodles benefited from some extra sides of hot sauce and sweet chili but it lasted me and my wife 3 days. Epic portion, and the folks running the carts were kind. Definitely felt out of the way and dark by the cart. I would say it's still worth making the trip to try the buns! ”
